If home is where the heart is, then I've been lovestruck since 1966, when as a 13-year-old from Long Island, I came with my folks to visit the Vineyard. We stayed at a place on the lagoon in Tisbury and I was smitten with the Island. The next year, my brother Larry was here in the summer as an actor in the Vineyard Players summer stock theater troupe and I became a mascot, musician and all around go-fer. Well, I was smitten even more. I knew that one day I would buy a home here and call myself a Vineyarder. For the many years of my music taking me many places, I would always try to rent a few weeks and keep my ties to this place. Finally in 1990, we bought a house and raised our 2 kids with summers on the Vineyard and as many off-season trips as we could finagle. After years in Toronto, I now have another home where I make my musical living, and that's Nashville. It's the place that makes recording so rich and so easily facilitated. But if home is truly where the heart is, I'm a Vineyarder first, foremost and forever. In my years in music, I've been many things to many projects, but in 1998 I got a call from Walt Disney Records to perform and produce an instrumental lullaby album. It sold extremely well and we followed it up with three more. Apparently I've helped well over a million little ones fall asleep. Parents have been writing me letters for years with sincere thanks. I am honored. So, yes, please give this gift of music to your baby or toddler and play it nice and soft in their bedroom as a sleep routine or quietly in the car when you want them to nap. Simply put: it works like a charm. When writing these new lullabies at my piano in Katama and then recording them, the vineyard was my sole inspiration. I hope as parents or caregivers who love the Vineyard, you will also get some restful time listening to the album and be musically transported to this most magical island.
